Commisions!Wow. I'm still recovering from yesterday. I only have class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and only three of them, but wow. My writing class scared me.

It's writing for children and adolescents, so the oldest we're allowed to write is the 12-17 year old age market. Also, we're not allowed to write fantasy. We're supposed to have written and re-written at least 7,000 words worth of a fiction novel by the end of the semester. We have to read 15 books for the genre/age group we'll be writing for. We are supposed to write 250 words every day Monday through Thursday, then rewrite and edit what we've written based on our out-of-class group critiques on Fridays. My brain is struggling to wrap itself around exactly how much work that all is. I think it's manageable? If I can write 53,000 words in roughly three weeks, I can do all of that in a semester, right?
The other hard part of it is I have to come up with a story idea that doesn't involve fantasy... one that I'd be interested in writing. Any random suggestions? I don't have very many of those ideas lying around. All my ideas are fantasy/sci-fi based. The teacher suggested I try something dystopian or that I could get away with a story that had one fantastic/magic element like the short story "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings." I like the second suggestion better.
My drawing for animation class is being taught by Jake Parker (so excited!). He didn't agree to teach the class until about a week ago, so he has no syllabus and not really any plans yet. The only thing he's told us is that there are 106 days from yesterday to the last day of class, so we will be required to turn in 106 drawings for our final. We're supposed to do a drawing a day.
So while my work load might seem scary in some aspects, at least they will help me with a couple of my new year's resolutions!

Okay. I just needed to process that and get it out. I should go be productive somehow or eat lunch. That might be a good idea.
