Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

My brain feels like an engine trying and failing to turn over. I'm sleepy. I have a lot to do today, but nothing seems important at the moment. I need to do first pass sketches for characters, animals, props, and environments for class tomorrow for the big final project, I need to write, and I need to read. It's almost 11 in the morning, I should have gotten something done by now.

Maybe I should switch what playlist I'm listening to. Lenka is fun, but not energetic.

I love this journal skin. It's ridiculous. Go hover your mouse over the links at the top. It makes me giggle.

Anyways, sorry to sleepily ramble at you. This journal is helping me get my brain working today. Now it's time for me to go write about two awkward teens and the official start of their romantic relationship.
